Since I was honored as the Editor-in-Chief of the Turkish Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism a year ago, we have published four issues. The fifth issue is the last one of  2009.

Papers of our colleagues on various subjects significantly contributed to the success of our periodical. I am pleased to announce that we received praising remarks from the international authorities in the mean time.

I sincerely wish that our journal will evolve and will be accepted for inclusion in the international indexes. Accomplishing this goal will lead to more citation and circulation of our papers. Therefore, I kindly request the valuable efforts and solidarity of my colleagues in order to realize this target.

Although we had so many achievements, 2009 also has been a year of deep sorrow for all of us. Our dear and respectable colleague Professor Nuri Kamel passed away unexpectedly in December, 2009. His contributions to medical science are well appreciated and he will be missed and remembered dearly by his colleagues and students.

On behalf of our society, I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and the medical society; may his soul rest in peace in heaven.
